When you find What You Need

When I was in the second year at University, I was to face a problem. I had to print some big maps and I had to move very fast. At that point, in our town there was no such thing as a plotter with internet connection where you could send the maps. You also know that instant messaging does not allow you to transfer big files and our maps were as big as a few hundred MB, sometimes even 1 or 2 GB. Moreover, as that was not enough we came after some days and nights of hard work so we were completely exhausted. Till one day when one of the classmates came with a brilliant new idea. The compact flash card. The fist types I saw could store 1-2 GB and they were no more than 10-15 dollars. The next days we knew what we have to do, each of us buy a compact flash card and from that point, we worked until early morning, than put all the work on the compact flash card and ran to the plot shop.

If you are asking yourself why we did not buy a printer, the answer is simple. It was not an ordinary printer. We had to print A0 or double A0 format and that was very expensive. And of course the University does not assure all the things that we might need, such as computers, materials, access to laboratories, and all the other facilities that a student who wants to learn well needs. I can say that our life as students was quite rough. While most of the other youth spent their time in bars, talking or sometimes going to gym, my colleagues and I were totally committed to the school and to our future career.
The compact flash card is one of the discoveries that were made in the right time. Well now, after two years, they had opened plot shops and you can transfer your files through internet, and after that, the operator tells you when you can come to take your maps and documents. They usually are ready in less than an hour. Well, sometimes the internet is not working well so the compact flash card is still useful. Moreover, I think it will still be useful for many years from now on. We call it “stick”, and it is well-known of the people and anyone can assure you how useful it is.
